Adopt A Lovie: The Importance of Choice

This year, Classic Kids Chicago generously donated a bundle of Lovies to Primo Center, giving us the opportunity to host a special Lovie Adoption Day for our families. In the days leading up to the event, anticipation grew as children imagined which Lovie they might choose and call their own.

When the day arrived, children eagerly lined up outside the door, waiting for their turn to make a selection. Some knew exactly which Lovie they wanted, while others walked the aisle, picking them up one by one before deciding. Once selections were made, we watched with joy as the newly adopted Lovies received names, hugs, and immediate adoration. Even some of our mothers joined the fun, caring for the Lovies alongside their children.

Beyond the excitement of the day, the event offered something especially meaningful: the chance for each child to make a choice of their own. For children experiencing homelessness, options are not always guaranteed. And even a small choice can carry a powerful sense of agency. On this day, that importance was unmistakable as bright eyes scanned the room in wonder, knowing they could choose the Lovie they wanted most.

By the end of the day, the Lovies were not just stuffed animals, but friends who were chosen, named, and loved. And what began with excitement ended in pure joy, as children left smiling with their newly adopted friends.

Thank you to Classic Kids Chicago and to our Primo staff who helped make this joyous day possible!
