September 1, 2007 – Beginning in November, 2007, volunteers from the Junior League of Chicago will begin a long-term strategic partnership with the Primo Center for Women and Children to help residents with job search and resume building, plus a healthy eating initiative.
The five-year program will start out as a series of once-a-month workshops in PCWC’s computer technology lab. Approximately six-to-eight volunteers from the Junior League will spend five hours each Saturday working with PCWC residents on their resumes and helping them look for employment. The volunteers will also supply lunch for moms and their kids.
A second-phase of the program that runs between September and June will be the development of a healthy eating module that will teach residents proper nutrition.
“We focus on women and children at risk. We’re committed to developing the potential of women, promoting volunteerism and improving communities,” said Betsy Whitlow, vice president of the community council for the Junior League of Chicago, and vice president of wealth management at Northern Trust.
